Who's the boss?

“Few persons realize how much of their happiness, such as it is, is dependent upon their work.”

We know not everyone can work with us at Freytag’s!!!

We had this come through our Twitter feed today and it reminded us Bosses Dayis right around the corner, Monday, October 17th.

We love what we do here at Freytag’s, it’s still work mind you,  but the design floor is always brimming withcreativity & our phones ring all day with the best customers ever! If it weren’t for our Freytag leaders, Ken & Chad (and of course Alice- we know who the real boss is!!), we wouldn’t be here so we relish this opportunity to thank them!!!

Wikipedia explains that despite common misperception this day was NOT established to sell cards (or flowers thank you very much!) but to honor a family and community leader that had been “forgotten” in the midst of a thriving business:

“Patricia Bays Haroskiregistered “National Boss’ Day” with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in 1958. She was working as a secretary for State Farm Insurance Company in Deerfield, Illinois at the time and chose October 8 because she forgot that the birthday of her boss, who was her father, was actually on the 16th. Four years later in 1962, Illinois Governor Otto Kerner backed Haroski’s registration and officially proclaimed the day.

National Boss’ Day has become an international

celebration in recent years and now is observed

in countries such as Australia, India and

South Africa and very recently Ireland and the UK.

Hallmark did not offer a Boss’ Day card

for sale until 1979. “

It’s only appropriate that his birthday was remembered incorrectly … bosses are often so busy leading us in the daily work charge that we forget they are human, let alone have birthdays!

Bosses Day gives us cause to celebrate our leaders.

The one’s who keep the AC

going on hot summer days,

the one’s who call in tech support

when our systems go down,

the one’s who sign our paychecks and schedule vacations…

At Freytag’s our whole story revolves around our boss, Ken Freytag, who started the business 36 years ago in his mother’s garage. His diligence, vision and elbow-grease has gotten Freytag’s to where it is today as one of the top 150 Florists in the country, and the largest in Austin.

He works along side all the employees here and more

often than not is still working when we leave at night. He

is known to make personal deliveries for customers at all

hours, to many unexpected places (think 6th St at 2am!)

thoroughly demonstrating our “say yes” motto…

Bosses walk the walk. They take hits for the team and keep the motor running. Don’t forget all those things your boss does so you don’t have to and thank them for it this Monday.

If you are your own boss treat yourself,

you deserve it!
