The Queen of Austin's Heart

That's my mom, Sharon Chiu. She’s dressed up as the Queen of Hearts from Alice & Wonderland for my niece’s 10 year old birthday party. When I look at this picture it makes me smile, because it is truly shows her fun nature. It also reminds me of how truly strong of a woman she is- she is a survivor. This picture was taken 2 months ago at a time when my mom was right in the middle of undergoing chemotherapy for cancer (She recently finished her last round of chemotherapy April 20th which definitely causes a need to celebrate!). I remember she wasn't feeling well that day, but there was no way she'd be late for this very important date. This photo reminds me of how she does anything for her family, even when she isn’t feeling her best. It takes me back to all those times when she would stay up all night with me, helping me cut out images from Highlight magazines for school projects. And when I think about how great my home-made costumes looked every Halloween, it makes me smile and appreciative of my mom’s thoughtfulness and creativity. My mom deserves to win Austin’s Favorite Mom Contest more so than any other entry, and in my heart, she has won this title every year of my life!
